Volvo Trucks has secured another top safety result, with the Volvo FM 4x2 rigid achieving a five-star rating in the latest assessment by Euro NCAP.
The result places the FM among a growing list of Volvo models recognised for high safety performance under Euro NCAP’s truck testing programme. To date, seven Volvo heavy-duty models have received the maximum rating.
The latest test focused on the “Regional Distribution” segment. Volvo entered the FM in a 4x2 rigid configuration, a common layout for urban and regional operations. The truck met the programme’s highest standards across key safety areas.
A five-star rating reflects strong performance in:
Driver support systems
Collision avoidance technologies
Visibility and monitoring
Post-crash response information
All rated Volvo models also meet Euro NCAP’s “City Safe” criteria. This covers systems designed to detect and respond to vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and cyclists, alongside improved direct and indirect driver vision.
“Safety remains at the heart of everything we do,” said Roger Alm. “We will continue to develop solutions that protect both drivers and other road users.”
Volvo models with five-star Euro NCAP ratings:
Volvo FM 4x2 tractor
Volvo FM 4x2 rigid
Volvo FM 6x2 rigid
Volvo FH 4x2 tractor
Volvo FH 6x2 rigid
Volvo FH Aero 4x2 tractor
Volvo FH Aero 6x2 rigid
Euro NCAP introduced its heavy truck safety rating scheme in 2024, with Volvo among the first manufacturers to achieve a five-star result.
For fleet operators, the rating highlights the growing role of active safety systems in reducing urban and regional transport risks. Features such as collision warning, automatic braking, and enhanced visibility are now central to vehicle selection, particularly for operations in dense traffic environments.
