Fleet Safety and Compliance at PUSPAKOM’s Ramadhan Gathering
Asian Trucker attended a Ramadhan event organised by PUSPAKOM, Malaysia’s national vehicle inspection authority. The gathering brought together media representatives and community guests, providing an opportunity to showcase the role of vehicle inspections in maintaining road safety for commercial fleets.
PUSPAKOM conducts mandatory inspections for trucks, buses, and other commercial vehicles. Examiners assess brakes, structural components, lighting, tyres, and emissions to ensure vehicles are compliant and roadworthy. For fleet operators, these checks are a critical part of operational reliability and regulatory compliance.
The event included a preview of PUSPAKOM’s Hari Raya brand film, Inspection Hati Aidil: Lumpur. The story follows a former vehicle examiner whose past decisions affect his family, highlighting the ethical responsibilities of examiners and the wider impact on road safety.
“Stories such as Inspection Hati Aidil: Lumpur reflect the realities faced by our vehicle examiners, the ethical choices they must make and the responsibility they carry in ensuring vehicles are safe for the road,” said Mahmood Razak Bahman, PUSPAKOM CEO.
He added, “Lumpur symbolises the stain of corruption that can harm individuals, institutions and society. This is why PUSPAKOM maintains zero tolerance toward bribery. Every inspection conducted with transparency and integrity contributes directly to safer roads for all Malaysians.”
A panel discussion followed, featuring actors Zahiril Adzim and Joyce Harn with Executive Producer Fairil Khalil and PUSPAKOM leadership. Fairil noted, “Through this film, we wanted to show how one decision, made in a moment, can shape the lives of many people. Integrity is not an abstract concept. It has real consequences.”
The event also included Ramadhan initiatives, such as bubur lambuk distribution at PUSPAKOM branches and a shopping outing for children from Rumah Kebajikan dan Bimbingan At-Taqwa, demonstrating the organisation’s community engagement alongside its operational role.
For the commercial vehicle sector, the event reinforced the importance of inspections as a safety and compliance checkpoint. Every truck and bus passing through PUSPAKOM lanes undergoes scrutiny that protects road users and supports fleet operators in maintaining reliable, roadworthy vehicles.
